“Leave them, take me.” It’s become a standard scene in hostage films. A brave parent offers themselves in place of their kids, or a husband in place of their wife. They’ll willingly endure the pain of whatever comes next in order to save their family. I couldn’t help but think of this as I read the Easter story again this morning. February 7th 1964. Pan Am flight 101, from London to New York, touches down on the tarmac at John F. Kennedy Airport. Amongst the passengers on the flight are four lads from Liverpool, heading to the big apple to launch their music career in America, and in the terminal are thousands of screaming fans.
